The 2024 International Humanist Conference and General Assembly were held in Singapore from 30 August to 1 September, jointly organised by Humanists International and the Humanist Society Singapore. More than 70 delegates from 30 countries attended the annual gathering this year.
The theme of the conference was “Secularism and Interfaith Harmony”. It featured presentations and panel discussions exploring the complex relationships between religion, belief, and secularism in today’s world. The were also workshops and interfaith tours.
Conference speakers described their (often challenging) efforts to encourage dialogue between Muslims and secularists. But there was a clear consensus on the key point: promoting social harmony in divided societies requires constant engagement between followers of all faiths and beliefs.
On 1 September the General Assembly re-elected Leo Igwe (Nigeria) to the Board of Humanists International to serve another three-year term (2024-2027). The Humanist Association of Northern Nigerian was ratified as an associate member of Humanists International.
The next General Assembly is to be held in Luxembourg in July 2025. The host will be AHA Luxembourg.
